NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-North Platte police held a news conference Thursday morning to provide an update on the investigation into the homicide of a woman found deceased in a holding pond near the city.

According to North Platte Chief of Police Daniel Hudson, officers were called to a holding pond on the Walmart Distribution Center property, 3000 East State Farm Road, on the morning of March 3 after it was reported that a female was discovered deceased in a pond. Chief Hudson says she was discovered by Walmart security doing a routine patrol of the area.

Officers and North Platte Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and the female's body was removed from the water by the Lincoln County Dive Team.

On Wednesday, police announced that the case was being investigated as a homicide.

Chief Hudson says the woman has not been identified and describes her as a white female, 5'3", 135 pounds, with brown hair and an upper tooth missing. Police say the woman has no tattoos. At the time of her death, police say she was wearing a braided hair extension. Police would not comment on if the woman was clothed or not. She believed to be in her mid-thirties.

When asked if the crime was believed to have taken place at that location or if the body had been moved there, Chief Hudson declined to answer, citing the ongoing investigation.

An autopsy is being conducted, however, Chief Hudson says it could take up to a month for that report to be returned.

Police are asking anyone with any information to contact the North Platte Police Department at 308-535-6789.
