NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-As the fluid situation of the COVID-19 outbreak continues, the North Platte Police Department is taking measures to ensure the continued safety of the community, as well as its employees. The North Platte Police Department is working closely with local officials, as well as the North Platte Fire Department, to ensure that the community is still receiving the appropriate response to any situation they may have.

The 911 Center is taking extra precautions when answering calls, which may include asking more specific questions about the health of the caller. We ask that you be patient with 911 Dispatchers during this time. If you need Law Enforcement or Fire/EMS personnel to respond for any reason, we ask that you report any flu-like symptoms or recent travel history to Dispatchers when calling, to assist with our response. These steps are important to protect responding units and prevent spreading the virus.

The North Platte Police Department has equipped all patrol cars with protective masks to help protect responding officers if needed. We are also following the guidelines set forth by the CDC to help keep the virus from further spreading by washing hands, cleaning work surfaces, etc. Patrol Officers are taking the extra steps to sanitize and clean all equipment, including patrol cars. At this time, our response to calls for service will remain unchanged. Officers may handle particular calls by phone if they feel that face to face contact is not needed. This is to help limit contact recommended by the CDC. The North Platte Police Department will continue to provide a professional response to any calls for service.
