NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-As the cases of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 skyrocket across the nation, health officials have reported the first COVID-19 related death in Lincoln County.
The West Central District Health Department said the man was in his 90s and had been hospitalized and had tested positive for COVID-19. He passed away on Monday at Great Plains Health.
Health officials gave few details about the case but said they do not believe it is a case of community-spread. However, the investigation is still ongoing as officials work to identify anyone who may have come into close contact with the patient.
There are now five confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Lincoln County and officials say they are conducting around 20 to 30 tests per day.
One woman in her 80s is still hospitalized due to COVID-19 complications, the other cases are all said to be resting at home.
