NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (April X, 2020) — The North Platte Noon Rotary Bloodhounds are doing their part to ensure blood is on the shelves this spring for patients in need. The entire North Platte community is encouraged to attend the 17th annual American Red Cross blood drive on April 22.
Over the past 16 years, donors at the Noon Rotary Bloodhounds drives have given over 2,100 pints, helping people like Kevin McGahan, an agent at Fortify Group and a member of both the Noon Rotary and the North Platte Jaycees.
In April 2000, McGahan was in a traumatic tractor accident resulting in the amputation of his left leg. He underwent multiple surgeries as a result of the accident and needed several blood transfusions. Even before the accident, McGahan was a blood donor, and he continues to give for others. So far, he has given over five gallons.
“Over 80% of Red Cross blood donations come from a mobile drive, meaning a blood drive hosted by a community organization, school, business or church,” said Amanda Koubek, Red Cross account manager for the North Platte area. “The Bloodhounds and their generous circle of donors are key to ensuring patients have access to the blood they need.”
