Rick D. Harness (1948-2020

Rick D Harness, 75, of North Platte passed away on May 4, 2020, of natural causes at his home. Rick was born in Billings Montana on February 26, 1945 to Dale Harness and Geraldine (Fisher) Harness.

Rick attended Longmont High School and graduated in 1963. Rick also attended CU in Boulder CO., in 1964 until he enlisted into the Navy, 1965-1969 and served in Vietnam. Rick was on the Independence Ship upon returning home to Longmont, Co.

Rick married Lois Stetson (Millsap, August 1, 1970, they divorced in 1990. To this marriage two most wonderful children were born, son, Troy Harness and daughter, Brandy Story.

Rick began working with his father Dale as a cook at the Long Peak Café in Longmont from 1969-1973. Rick was attending ETI in Denver for Electronics. After graduation Rick and his family moved to North Platte, NE, where Rick worked for Murphy’s Music.

In the fall of 1978 Rick started working at the Gerald Gentleman Station in Sutherland, retiring in 2006.

Rick married Lisa (Brown) Harness, August 29, 2000, they lived in Hershey until 2019 when they moved to North Platte.

Rick loved his CU Buffs, Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, Denver Nuggets. He like to bowl, play cards, and fantasy football.

Rick is survived by his wife, Lisa; sister Patti Watson (Kevin) Austerman of Longmont, CO; son, Troy (Kim) Harness, LaSalle CO; daughter, Brandy (Bob) Story, North Platte; stepdaughter, Samantha (Brian) Muggy; he was dearly loved by her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepson Scott Brown.

We are thankful to have shared his life, his stories, his “laugh”. Rick will be missed by all who knew him.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, May 7, at Adams and Swanson Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kevin Hendricks officiating. Casual sportswear is welcomed. Private family burial will be held on Friday at Fort McPherson, near Maxwell, NE.

Keeping with the State of Nebraska mandates in reference to COVID-19, the funeral service will be live-streamed on Adams and Swanson’s Funeral Home Facebook page.
