OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Another Nebraska prison employee has tested positive for COVID-19, and the number of virus cases in the state continues to rise.
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services said a Nebraska State Penitentiary employee has tested positive for coronavirus and is recovering at home. Officials are in the process of identifying all the staff members and inmates who had close contact with the individual who has the virus.
A total of 10 corrections employees and three state inmates have tested positive for the virus so far.
The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services said Sunday that 10,220 people had tested positive for the coronavirus in the state and 123 people had died.
For some infected people, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, the virus can cause severe illness or death. But for most people, it causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough, that clear up in two to three weeks.
