
Sheryl Ann Ohrt, 56 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at her mother’s home in Orleans, Nebraska, following a courageous battle with cancer. Sheryl was born on August 27, 1963, in Omaha, Nebraska, the second of four children, to Kenneth Eggert and LoAnne (Richards) Ohrt.
She was baptized at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington, Nebraska and was later confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege. She attended Orleans Public Schools, graduating from Orleans High School with the class of 1981. Sheryl then pursed higher education from UNMC in Omaha, where she received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing and then became a Certified Pediatric Nurse.
Sheryl’s nursing career started at McCook, Nebraska. She then began a career in pediatrics at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney for over 30 years, and most recently worked at Children’s Physicians in Kearney for the last couple years. She was a warm, caring individual, with a heart of gold, which allowed her to excel in her role as a pediatric nurse. was also a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician/Instructor with Safe Kids Car Seat and was very conscientious in serving her patients with dignity, respect and true compassion. Sheryl also treasured the many lasting friendships she made throughout her years as a nurse.
Sheryl loved spending time with her family, and attending all of her nieces and nephews activities. She was a dedicated member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, the church choir and the Bethel Quilters.
She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Ohrt.
Sheryl leaves to celebrate her life: her mother, LoAnne Ohrt of rural Orleans; sister, Janet Exstrom and her husband, Kent of Holdrege; two brothers: Richard Ohrt and his wife, Hilary of Holdrege; and Dr. James Ohrt and his wife, Nora of Henderson, Nebraska; her nieces and nephews: Kyle Exstrom; Andrea Exstrom; Taylor Dunaway and her husband, Blake; Brody Ohrt; Odessa Ohrt; Dawson Ohrt; Weston Ohrt; and Shepleigh Ohrt; one great-niece, Abigail Dunaway; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege; per CDC guidelines of 10 people or less in the facility at one time.
A memorial has been established in Sheryl’s honor, and kindly suggested to the Bethel Lutheran Church or Safe Kids Car Seat of Kearney.
