UPDATED Authorities recover man's body from NPPD canal

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has identified the body of the deceased as; sixty-eight-year-old Nicholas Legas of rural North Platte, NE. An autopsy will be performed on June 11, 2020. This is an ongoing death investigation.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-Authorities say the body of a Lincoln County man has been recovered from the Nebraska Public Power District canal.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, family members of the man, who is in his 60s, became concerned and began searching for him when he didn't arrive at work this morning.

Others joined in the search and, at around 11:00 a.m., the man's boss spotted his vehicle and his body in the canal just to the west of Wagon Trail Road, which is just west of Lake Maloney.

LCSO says the Lincoln County Dive Team and North Platte Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and recovered the man's body.

Officials have not released any other details at this time. Check back often for updates.
