Beverlee Joan Swanson (1931-2020

Beverlee Joan Swanson, 88, passed away of natural causes on June 6, 2020, in Ft. Collins, CO, surrounded by family.  She was born July 5, 1931 to Glenn V. and Nellie (Bennett) Meyers at Holdrege, Nebraska.  The family moved to McCook when she was four years old and she attended McCook schools until graduating in 1949.

On October 22, 1949, she was united in marriage to Bruce M. Swanson.  They made their home on a farm north of McCook.  To this union was born Terri (Alan) Goodsell of Absarokee, MT, Leslie Butler of Fort Collins, CO, Robert (Kathryn) Swanson of Lincoln, NE, and Steven (Rhonda) Swanson of Dumas, TX.

Preceding her in death were her parents, a sister, Marilyn Meyers, and her in-laws, Swantie and Esther Swanson.

Survivors include her husband Bruce, four children and their spouses, seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Mary Poore of McCook and many nieces and nephews as well as cousins and friends.

She was a member of McCook Memorial United Methodist Church leading Bible studies and Sunday School classes.  Beverlee had an interest in writing and sold many articles to local, state, and national publications.  She also worked at the McCook Gazette and as a public relations writer for McCook Community Hospital.  She belonged to PEO, Eastern Star, and Nebraska Writers Guild.

Both Beverlee and Bruce were members of Nebraska-Wyoming Wheat Growers making many life-long friends and were privileged to chaperone the Nebraska Wheat Queen promoting Nebraska wheat industry. They retired from farming in 1992.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook, NE, on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. (CT). The family suggests memorials be given to Memorial United Methodist, 105 East E Street, McCook, NE, 69001.
