
Maxine M. Thompson, 84 of Kearney passed away Saturday, June 6, 2020 at her home in Kearney.
Maxine was born January 1, 1936 in Dixon County, Nebraska to Kenneth and Eula (Gloshen) Voss. She received her education from Allen, Nebraska graduating with the class of 1954. She later attended Kearney State College where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education.
Maxine was united in marriage to Norman Thompson on November 24, 1954 in Ainsworth, Nebraska and to this union four children were born: Susan, Sharon, Sandra and Shelly. The couple lived in Ainsworth and traveled around due to Norman’s construction job until 1961, when they moved to the Shelton/Gibbon area until 1993. In 1993, they made their home in Kearney.
Maxine enjoyed reading, babysitting her grandchildren and collecting books.
Left to cherish his memory are her daughters, Susan Tillemans and her husband, Cliff of Gibbon, Sharon Thompson of Kearney, Sandra Erickson and her husband, Michael of North Platte, and Shelly Thompson of Kearney; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Voss of Long Pine, NE; sister, Karen Davison of Ainsworth, NE; brother-in-law, Ross Thompson and his wife, Bonnie of Sidney, NE; sisters-in-law, Jean Thompson of Fremont, NE and Janet Thompson of Wilber, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Norman Thompson.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2020 at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Pastor Dean Pofahl will officiate. Interment will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
