Edward Don Rinehart, age 60, of McCook, Nebraska was surrounded by the love of his family when he passed away at his home in McCook on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. He was born to Donnie and Carol (Emrich) Rinehart on September 13, 1960 in Cambridge, Nebraska. Ed graduated from Republican Valley High School with the class of 1978.
On June 24, 1983, he married Jeannine Lynn Custer at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. They made McCook their lifelong home where they raised their children, Donnie and Angela. Ed worked construction and was employed by the Nebraska Department of Roads for almost 30 years; he was named the Employee of the Year and Admiral of Nebraska in 2007.
Ed enjoyed many hobbies. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ed was a collector of anything military related; he had a large bayonet collection. He collected and traded coins and was a military history buff. He spent countless hours tracing and recording his family’s genealogy.
Ed was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. He also served on the Medicine Creek Wildlife Association board. He was a member of the NRA and a vocal supporter of President Donald J. Trump.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Jene Custer.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannine Rinehart of McCook; son, Donnie (Brooke) Rinehart of McCook; daughter, Angela (Bill) Watts of McCook; grandchildren: Skylar, Madison, Tristen, Brayden, and Carter Watts; soon to be granddaughter, Hallie Watts; soon to be great-granddaughter, Bethlynn; sister, Julie (Mike) Weskamp of Aurora, Colorado; brother, Terry (Vanessa) Rinehart of Burlington, Colorado; sister, Trudy (Christopher) Daniel of North Platte; mother-in-law, Carmen Custer of McCook; brothers-in-law, Kevin (Kathy) Custer and Eugene Custer both of McCook; sister-in-law, Krystal (Dave) Downing of McCook; as well as his nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation with family present will be held on Thursday afternoon, June 10, 2021 from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday afternoon, June 11, 2021 at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with Pastor Lonnie Felcher officiating.
