Bruce Allen of North Platte passed away April 26, 2024, at age 87.
Bruce was born to Floyd and Leola Allen at Paxton on April 29, 1936. The family later moved to the Tryon area, then to North Platte in 1950. When he was 17, Bruce hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad.
On June 18, 1955, he married his sweetheart, Sharon Barrett at North Platte. To this union a son, Mitchell, and daughter, Brenda, were born.
Bruce left the railroad in 1962 to work as a Lincoln County Deputy Sheriff then, six years later, went to work as a North Platte Fireman. He retired with the rank of Captain in 1993.
While working for the City of North Platte, Bruce went to school and got his real estate license in 1978 and later a real estate brokers license. He sold real estate for several years.
In 1994, Bruce and Sharon moved to the ranch north of Hershey. They raised black angus cattle with their daughter and son-in-law while at the same time Bruce worked as a maintenance manager for the Sutherland Care Center. They sold the ranch in 2012, moved back to North Platte, and Bruce completely retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and parents-in-law; his sister, Wanda Daly; and brothers, Wilford "Bud" and Victor "Vic" Allen.
Bruce is survived by his wife of more than 68 years, Sharon; son, Mitchell (Shelly) of Hershey; daughter, Brenda (Douglas) Taylor of North Platte; grandchildren, Brandt Taylor, Scott (Shannon) Taylor and Jessica Allen; great-grandkids, Jason and Shawn; sisters, Zola (Bill) Karn and Karen Empfield, all of Stapleton; and other family.
Services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 1, at Odean Colonial Chapel with Pastor James Trippett officiating. Burial will follow in the North Platte Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Online condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com.
