- The North Platte High School IronDawgs powerlifting team competed at Omaha Creighton Prep's Early Bird tournament on Saturday, and walked away with a nice collection of hardware. More than 200 lifters from 15 different schools competed in the squat, bench press, and deadlift events in the season opener.
- For the girls, Myah Porter and Grace Wilke were both champions for NPHS, with Gabby Gartner bringing home silver, Abby Hankla taking 3rd, and Jayden McBeain and Adyson Stroud both placing 5th in their respective weight divisions.
- For the boys, Seth Penn and Cole Tomlinson were individual champions in their weight divisions, with Brock Matuszczak picking up a second place medal, Jacob Carlson 4th, and Drew Cummings placing 5th.
- Coach Arttie Parker said that forty-seven personal records were set by the 23 lifters who competed, with six lifters competing for the first time. Parker stated several members of the team stayed home to rest up as they head to Lexington next weekend for a USAPL National Qualifying tournament on Saturday. Parker indicated he anticipates as many as a dozen lifters will qualify to travel to Appleton, WI in March for the National Tournament. with seven athletes having already qualified at the Cornhusker State Games this past summer.
