1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
The Mid-Plains Community College Board of Governors met for its regularly scheduled meeting at 6:30 p.m. (CDT) Wednesday, January 15, 2025, in the McCook Community College East Campus conference room, 905 E. 7th St., McCook, Neb.
Board Chair Cynthia Duncan started the meeting with a roll call. In addition to Duncan, those present were MPCC President Ryan Purdy and Board members: Matthew Broz, Kirk Crawley, Molly Jeffres, Ted Klug Jr., Kim Korgan, Megan McGown, Kent Miller and Tricia Schaffer. Board members Dr. Ben Lashley and Tyler Pribbeno were absent and excused.
NPCC student trustee EmiLee Walnofer and MCC student trustee Kendree Kern were also present.
2. ADMISTRATION OF OATH OF OFFICE
a. Newly elected Board members Molly Jeffres and Megan McGown were sworn into office along with reelected Board members Matthew Broz, Kirk Crawley, Kent Miller and Ted Klug, Jr.
3. ELECTION OF OFFICERS
a. The Board reelected the following officers: Cynthia Duncan as board chair; Kim Korgan as vice chair; Kirk Crawley as secretary/treasurer and Matthew Broz as assistant secretary/treasurer. Kent Miller and Tyler Pribbeno will be the Board’s Nebraska Community College Association (NCCA) representatives.
4. CONFLICT OF INTEREST
a. MPCC board members completed a form indicating any potential conflicts of interest that could affect decisions regarding college matters.
5. OPEN FORUM (Comments from students, faculty, staff, public and Board)
a. Kendree Kern provided a review of student activities in McCook and EmiLee Walnofer updated the Board on the student activities in North Platte.
b. Dr. David Potter, speech instructor, shared a prepared statement on behalf of the MPCC faculty with the Board.
c. Dillon Hargrove, MCC basketball coach, and his wife Brooke were introduced to the Board.
d. The MCC Volleyball Team was introduced to the Board.
e. The MPCC Rodeo Team was introduced to the Board.
6. CONSENT ITEMS. On a single consent motion, the board approved:
a. Minutes from December 18th Board Work Session & Regular Meeting
b. Financial Report for December
c. Annual Affirmation of Policies
7. ACTIONS REQUIRED BY LAW
a. The Board approved bills for December in the amount of $1,640,227.28.
b. The Board approved the second and final reading of Policy 5210, Scholarships/Tuition Waivers.
c. The Board approved furniture updates for NPCC North Campus.
d. The Board approved change in Board meetings for 2025.
e. The Board approved replacement of the HVAC system in the W.W. Wood Building on the North Campus of NPCC.
8. REPORTS
a. Cabinet Reports: The Board heard reports from MPCC President Ryan Purdy, Vice President of Academic Affairs and NPCC Dr. Jody Tomanek, Vice President of Student Affairs and MCC Kelly Rippen, Vice President of Administrative Services Mike Steele, Director of Human Resources Rebecca Wrage, Director of Institutional Effectiveness Tad Pfeifer, Director of Institutional Advancement Haven Smith and Director of Marketing & Public Information Daniel Stinman.
6. CLOSED SESSION
a. The Board went into closed session at 7:29 p.m. to discuss negotiations and real estate. The Board reconvened in open session at 8:42 p.m. No action was taken.
7. ADJOURNMENT
Upon hearing no further business, the Board moved to adjourn at 8:43p.m. The next Board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 19 in North Platte.
