David Carl Rasmussen, age 72, of York, Nebraska passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on March 14, 2024.

Dave was born on January 18, 1952 in North Platte, Nebraska to Virgil and Mable Rasmussen.  He attended Miller School before graduating from North Platte High School in 1969.  He graduated with a degree in Ag Honors from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1973.  Dave was a member of Farmhouse Fraternity, Faculty Senate, and was on the livestock judging team.  He was the national horse judging champion in college.

On June 15, 1974, he married Julene (Julie) Sundquist in Lyons, Nebraska.  They made their home on the family farm southwest of  North Platte.  Dave farmed and started working at Production Credit in 1974.  He continued as an Agricultural Loan Officer at banks in North Platte until he moved to York in 2006.  Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President and Agricultural Loan Officer at York State Bank until his retirement in December 2019.

Dave devoted his life to his family.  He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He was always there for his family and gave them unconditional support.  He was a coach, mentor, wise counsel, helper, problem solver, and gift giver.  He supported his children and his grandchildren's many activities.  He rarely missed a cross country or track meet.  He always encouraged his grandchildren, whether it be in sports, studies, or patiently answering their many questions.  He had the right tools for any project, and was always there to help his family, neighbors, and friends.  He enjoyed being in York where he was involved in the daily lives of his children and grandchildren.

Dave had many hobbies.  He coached his kids' youth and club soccer teams for many years.  He loved cars and antique tractors, and treasured his '55 Ford Thunderbird and his grandpa's ZB Minneapolis Moline tractor.  He enjoyed making improvements to his SSR truck and traveling with Julie to SSR Fanatics gatherings across the country.  He enjoyed traveling to National Parks and trips to the mountains.  He was a curious, lifelong learner and many went to him as a source of information on many subjects.  He loved sports, animals, shopping, mechanics, classic rock music, tools, farming, and history.  He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte and a current member of Faith Lutheran Church in York.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Carol Sundquist, brother-in-law Marvin Sundquist, brother-in-law Jim Lovercheck, nephew Mike Kostin, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Dave is survived by his wife, Julie; daughter Amy and son-in-law Brandon Lehman; his grandchildren John, Caleb, and Anna Lehman; his son Eric and daughter-in-law Lisa Rasmussen who are expecting a daughter soon.  He is also survived by his sister Susan, her husband Cliff Jewel, and their children Lora and Travis; and well as his sister-in-law Marilyn Kostin, her husband John and their children Kate, paula, David, Anna, and Lisa; sister-in-law Evelyn and her children Jim, Judy and Jeff; brother-in-law Marvin's children Lauree, Doug, Chris and Michelle; and brother-in-law Ray and his children Deb and Morgan.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Faith Lutheran Church in York.  Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, with his family greeting friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. that same evening, all at Metz Mortuary in York.

Funeral services will also be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte.  Family will receive friends prior to the services from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. at the church.  Burial will follow at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens in North Platte.
