Barry Alan Longsine, of Oxford, formerly of Sutherland, passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island on March 14, 2024, at the age of 62.  One of two boys, he was born to Barbara Hoaglund on October 4, 1961, in North Platte.

Growing up, Barry attended school in Wood River, NE, graduating with the class of 1979 in a class of 79 students.  Upon completing high school, Barry began a lifelong passion and profession of training horses, first at Fonner Park in Grand Island and then where he considered to be the most important, Jim Applegate in Sutherland.  It was at the Plamoore Ballroom in Emerald, NE, that Barry met Laurie McLaughlin.  The two were married in North Platte on July 21, 1997, and welcomed three daughters into the world: Trista, Kirstan, and Jessica.  The couple would also become parents to a fourth daughter and an only son, Roianna and Brenson.  The family moved throughout the Midwest, Barry always working as a ranch hand or a horse trainer.

Outside of training horses and watching horse races, Barry was heavily involved in the 4H community and especially loved watching his daughter, Kirstan, show dairy cows, and teaching his kids how to ride horses.  He also enjoyed reading, going to hockey games, and cooking, while singing along to his favorite country songs in the kitchen.  Barry was silly more often than not and found himself to be funny most of the time.  He absolutely adored his grandkids and took the role of “Papa” very serious, especially when it came to the supply of apple juice in his house.

Family remaining to carry on Barry’s memory include his wife, Laurie Longsine of Oxford; children, Trista (Cody) Schoen of Oxford, Kirstan Longsine of Milford, Jessica (Derek) Schoen of Oxford, Roianna Seamann of Oxford, Brenson Longsine of Oxford; grandchildren, Brecken Fritz, Quinten, Sadieann, and Sawyer Schoen; mother, Barbara Longsine; father, Louis Longsine of Tulsa, OK; as well as other family.

Those preceding him in death include his brother, Tracy Longsine; maternal grandparents, Pete and Suzie Hoaglund.
