Gary Vedder, 73, passed away on June 9, 2023, at Great Plains Health surrounded by his family. Gary was born on Nov. 1, 1949, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to Verlin L and Francis J (Huguenin) Vedder. They moved to North Platte in the early 1950s. He graduated from North Platte High School in 1968. In March 1968, Gary married Elizabeth Kay Shultz and to this union, three children were born: Trish, Michael and Jeremy. Gary worked as a diesel mechanic and truck driver for many years, owning trucks and shops at different times throughout his life. He enjoyed time with his family and his beer, a lot. His words of wisdom, funny stories and weird sense of humor will be missed by everyone who knew him and especially his grandkids who enjoyed him immensely. He was kind and generous with his time and always willing to help.
Gary is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth of North Platte; his daughter Trish (Pat) Thompson of Sterling, Colorado; his sons, Michael (Dawn) Vedder and Jeremy (Tanya) Vedder of North Platte; his brothers, Bob (Barb) Vedder, Tom (Kris) Vedder, James Vedder, Roger (Verna) Vedder and Don Vedder, all of North Platte; his sister, Carol (James) West of North Platte; grandchildren, Tyler (Janelle) Otzel of North Platte, Tanner, MacKenzie (Andrew Hazen) and Grant Vedder, all of Maxwell, Alyssa (Marcus) Miller, Johanna, Rachel (Josh Nila), Blake, Austin, Huxton and Addison Tracy, all of North Platte; great-grandchildren. Hope, Tatum, Kasen, Everleigh and Haven Grayce.
There will be a celebration of life at 4 p.m. Friday, June 16, at the D&N Event Center. Please join us for food, beverages and memories to help celebrate the life of Gary. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
