
Marcellene "Marcy" L. Johnson, age 78, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Great Plains Health in North Platte from complications of COVID. She was born on March 14, 1943 in North Platte, Nebraska, daughter of Theodore "Ted" Maassen and Wilhemina "Mina" (Hagge) Maassen.
Marcy graduated from Hershey High School in Hershey, Nebraska in 1961. She married her high school sweetheart, Gene Johnson, on January 6, 1962 in North Platte. Marcy did daycare for the Jim and Diane Ostermeyer children while raising her own two children. As a busy mom, she helped with 4-H and sporting events for her two kids, Brenda and Mitch. Later in life, she was the right-hand help to Gene in managing 6th Dimension Apartment Complex, and also worked for a time at the North Platte Pawn Shop. She was a life-long member of Messiah Lutheran Church in North Platte. She enjoyed gardening, planting flowers and playing cards. Above all, she loved her family fiercely, especially her grandkids, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Gene; daughter, Brenda (Theron) Jackson of Firestone, Colorado; son, Mitch (Dana Dee) Johnson of Aurora, Colorado; grandchildren, Kaylee (Travis) Dietz, Austin (Becca) Jackson, and Jeron Johnson; great-grandson, Hunter Alan Jackson; brother, Bill (Judy) Maassen of Hershey, Nebraska; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Don (Joan) Johnson of Hershey, Nebraska and Peggy Chaney of Lincoln, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ted and Mina Maassen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Nick and Ellen Johnson; infant sister, Sondra Maassen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Lyle) White, Lyle (Janet) Johnson, and Bill Chaney.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Messiah Lutheran Church in North Platte, Nebraska with Pastor Wade Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens in North Platte.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 14, 2022 with the family receiving friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church or to the family for future designation.
