Britt Allen Wilson, 54, of North Platte, NE went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 4, 2022, passing peacefully in his sleep at his home.
Britt was born on March 10, 1968 in Des Moines, IA the son of Robert L. and Roberta (Youngberg) Wilson.
When he was three days old his new parents brought him home to Gothenburg, NE. Britt lived most of his life in North Platte and Hershey. He attended North Platte and Hershey schools, graduating in 1986 from Hershey High School. In 1988, Britt enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1992. He served in Bravo Company, 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, actively participating in the liberation of Kuwait in Operation Desert Storm. His unit had a critical role in Task Force Papa Bear to breach operations into Kuwait, thereby repelling the attempted Iraqi invasion of Saudi Arabia. After Desert Storm Britt was selected to serve as a recovery vehicle crewman, a position reserved for the best, most proficient AAV mechanics, then serving with Delta Company he was awarded eleven military decorations. He spoke fondly of his time in the military and made a point to go all out every 4th of July, his favorite holiday.
Britt was married to Shanna Hayes, and together they had a daughter, Brianna Jo. He was a loving and nurturing father, working overtime every day to give his daughter the best life possible. He was also a member of the Hershey Volunteer Fire Department for a few years. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with family, fishing and anything to do with his guns. He worked as a fuel truck driver with Velocity Rail Solutions, where he spent many years as a dependable member of their team.
Following his divorce, he devoted his life to his family and his own happiness. Upon welcoming his first grandchild, he proudly took on the role of “Poppa”. His grandkids were the light of his life and he spent many days watching and spoiling them. If you knew Britt, then you know his love and loyalty was never questioned. He would do anything for anybody, especially those close to him.
Those left to cherish Britt’s memory are his parents, Bob and Roberta Wilson of Bolivar, MO; daughter, Brianna (Caelan) Long of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren, Trayden, Maelee, and Maci; sisters, LeAnn (Matt) Henenberg of Bolivar, MO, and Robyn (Craig) Jennings of Webb City, MO; nieces and nephews, Seth, Audrey, and Maude (Dylan), Rylee (fiancé Brandon Hounslow), and Caily; great-niece, Eleanor; his lifelong best friend, Larry Stoner; and fellow Marine, Brad Anderson.
As his cousin Trevor so aptly expressed, “Britt knew a lot about a lot of things, and he knew something about everything. He had excellent mechanical ability and was the “go-to guy” for any problems.”
