
Hervy Andrew Saathoff, age 81, of rural North Platte, went to be with his Lord after a long battle with cancer on September 23, 2022 at Great Plains Health. He was born on August 15, 1941 in Kearney, NE to Lester Andrew and Marian Learned (Whipple) Saathoff. He attended grade school in Kearney before moving to North Platte to live with his mother. He continued his education, graduating from North Platte High School with the class of 1959.
Hervy entered the U.S Army in January 1960. He served two tours of Vietnam in 1965 and 1967. He was discharged in 1969. On November 15, 1970, he married Donna Mae Kovanda. After their marriage, they moved to the family farm where Hervy worked with his father-in-law and brother-in-law on the farm. Hervy hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad as a Carman. He worked there for 35 years, retiring in January 2002.
Hervy attended the Hershey Baptist Church and Two Rivers Fellowship in North Platte, was a member of the Southwest Tractor Collectors, Heart of Platte Valley Tractor Collectors, American Legion Post #163, AARP, RSVP, and vice president of the board of the Lincoln County Historical Museum. He was very active with the North Platte Senior Center and delivered Meals on Wheels for them.
Survivors include his wife Donna; children, April Mae Casper, and Lea Ann (Chad) Reece, all of North Platte; grandchildren, Andon Thomas Saathoff Casper of North Platte , and Arianna AnnaLea Casper of Kearney; great grandson, Nikolai Casper; siblings, Garret (Sue) Saathoff of Washington, Arthur (MaryLou) Saathoff of North Platte, Bonnie (Bob) Smith of North Platte; brother-in-law, Victor (Karolyn) Kovanda of Independence, MO; special children, Masashi (Arata) Okuyama and their son of Japan, Cynthia Valentine and her son Jaedon of North Platte, NE, and Bob Hoobler of North Platte; and numerous other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Leslie Burke, and in-laws, Leo and Clarice Kovanda.
A memorial has been established to the North Platte Senior Center, and the Lincoln County Historical Museum. Online condolences and online streaming of the services will be at www.adamsswanson.com. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday September 28, 2022 at the Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with Pastors Kevin Hinrichs and Doug Lee officiating. Burial will be at the Kearney Cemetery at 3 pm. Visitation will be Tuesday from 12-7 with the family receiving friends from 5-7. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
