North Platte Man Arrested After Hit-and-Run Crash Near Casey’s

A North Platte man has been arrested after police say he left the scene of a four-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon that injured one person.

Angel Benitez, 37, is charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an injury accident and driving without an operator’s license.

North Platte police were called to Casey’s on East Fourth Street shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday following a reported hit-and-run crash.

Benitez was driving a Ford F-350 west on Fourth Street at about 3:58 p.m. when he struck the rear of a Chevrolet minivan that was turning into Casey’s.

The impact pushed the minivan into two parked vehicles near the gas pumps.

One person reportedly suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Bystanders reported Benitez left the scene following the crash. Officers later located him and determined he was impaired and did not have a valid operator’s license.

Benitez was arrested and booked into the Lincoln County Jail.

He appeared in Lincoln County Court Monday, where his bond was set at $25,000 at 10%.

Benitez is scheduled to return to court Oct. 1.

The charges are allegations, and Benitez is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
