William "Bill" Fleischer (1937-2021)

William "Bill" Fleischer, age 84, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died February 21, 2021 at Gothenburg Health.  

He was born January 27, 1937 in Gothenburg, NE, son of William Ernest and Elna (Franzen) Fleischer.

Bill grew up on the family farm north of Gothenburg, and attended New Hope, District 153 for his elementary days and then attended and graduated from high school in Gothenburg.

Bill married Marlene King in Central City, NE on February 26, 1961. They were married for almost 60 years. 

Bill enjoyed all kinds of sports, and also enjoyed spending his time hunting and fishing. He always had a garden that he loved to share with family and friends.  Bill was also known for his ability to make homemade jellies and his famous fudge. Most of all, Bill loved his time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and spending his time studying the word of the Lord.  He was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran church where he served on the church council and was very involved and active in the church.  Bill never met a stranger, he had the ability to talk to anyone and carry on a conversation as if they were life long friends.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene of Gothenburg; two daughters, Janet (Marion) Douglass of Grand Island, NE, Becky (Scott) Simants of Gothenburg, NE; two sons, William (Traci) Fleischer III of Cozad, NE and Wade (Jennifer) Fleischer of Ayr, NE; 14 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren; two sisters, Roine Ecklund of Gothenburg, NE, Elnora "Tip" (Arlan) Ronnekamp of Gothenburg, NE; sister-in-law Charlotte Burruss of Clarks, NE; brother-in-law Wayne King of Lady Lake, FL; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. 

Bill was preceded in death by his parents William and Elna, and brother-in-laws William Ballmer, Norris Ecklund, and Jay R Burruss.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Friday, February 26, 2021, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm with the family present from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm.

Services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Gothenburg, NE on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Carol Mapa officiating and will be live streamed on Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel YouTube page.
