Carol Marie Miller Nelsen (1923-2020)

Carol Marie Miller Nelsen was born in St. Edward, Nebraska on February 8, 1923 and passed away at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs, Nebraska on December 3, 2020.  Carol was born February 8, 1923 in St. Edward, Nebraska to Oliver and Jennie Miller. She graduated from St. Edward High School and afterward attended technical school for clerical work.  Carol was joined in marriage to Earl Christian Nelsen on June 24, 1943 in St. Paul, Nebraska. Early years were spent in St. Paul and then they moved to Valentine, Nebraska where they started the family business, Nelsen Plumbing and Heating. Six children were born to this union, five sons and one daughter.

Carol had a deep love of family and enjoyed time spent with family activities.  She was always gentle, kind and giving. Carol’s faith in the Lord was especially important to her. She was faithful in reading the scriptures and praying daily and loved listening to the old hymns, among her favorites were How Great Thou Art and Amazing Grace.   Carol loved gardening, whether it was planting beautiful flowers or planting a garden to receive the harvest for cooking.   She also had a love for camping, crafts, and there was always coffee and snacks to be found for anyone visiting.

Carol is survived by her children, Dennis (Nancy), Donald, (Virginia), Gordon (Ruth), Larry (Joyce), Merrell (Kristi), and Cindy (Andrew Hamre).  Grandchildren include Chrystal, Dana, Daryl, Natalie, Jack, William, Jim, Jennifer, Miquan, Kristy, Michelle, Kerstin, Nika, Benjamin, Cameron & McKenzie, along with their families, including 16 Great Grandchildren.

Carol is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Christian Nelsen, her sister, Doris Eckwald and her parents, Oliver Miller and Jennie Peterson Miller.

A graveside service will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Valentine, Nebraska at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2020 with Pastor Jerry Miller officiating.  In lieu of flowers donations in her memory to organization of your choice are appreciated.  Suggested organizations may include:  Valentine Future Farmers of America, Cody/Kilgore Future Farmers of America and Samaritan’s Purse.  Sandoz Chapel of the Pines was in charge of service arrangements.
