– Right side Brynn Stowell and middle Megan Leedle had big efforts and eighth-ranked Nebraska Kearney had only two attack errors in a sweep (-8, -16, -12) of Jessup University Saturday afternoon in Arcata, Calif.
This was the fourth and final match of the "Redwood Coast Volleyball Classic" hosted by Cal Poly Humboldt. The Lopers (8-1) have now won eight in a row, all by sweep.
The JU Warriors (1-6), a second-year D2 program from Rocklin, Calif., hit only .103 and were aced five times. UNK had a historic offensive day, committing only two attack errors (blocked twice) in 99 swings. With 42 kills that equaled out to a .404 efficiency.
Stowell (Olathe, Kan.) had a match-high 11 kills and hit .500 with Leedle (Germantown, Wisc.) at 10 kills and a match-high .692 attack percentage. In all, eight Lopers had a kill with each hitting at least .333. Finally, libero Ellie Spang (Ft. Wayne, Ind.) had three aces and 10 digs; freshman DS/OH Taryn Arbuthnot (Sumner) had six digs, two kills, ace and assist with sophomore Addison Budke (Beloit, Kan.) at four kills in five swings.
UNK faces Northwestern Oklahoma State (4-4; a Sept. 5 night match), William Jewell (1-7) and Hastings (7-2; match Sept. 9) in the annual Rosella Meier Fall Classic next weekend (Sept. 11-12).
