Bernadine “Dee” Marie Meyer, age 90, of North Platte, died September 9, 2023 at Stone Hearth in Gothenburg.  Dee was born on July 7, 1933 in Stockville, NE to Cletus and Nellie (Malloy) Arent. 

Dee was raised in the Stockville area and graduated from Stockville High School in 1951.  In 1954, she married Bob Pinkerton.  Bob preceded her in death after a battle with cancer in 1969.  On February 11, 1971, Dee married Larry Meyer.  The couple lived in North Platte where Dee was employed at the Assessor’s office.  Dee worked there for over 40 years, serving as the county assessor from 1971 until 1999.   Larry preceded her in 2011 after a four-year battle with cancer.

Dee was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and was very family oriented.  She loved the kids, babies, blue heelers and her Belgian horses.   She was a very clean person, exercising her spring cleaning every Saturday.  Dee will be remembered for her big family dinners, especially Christmas Eve, and her excellent cooking skills.  She loved politics and watched Fox news and old westerns.  Her last words to her family were “Vote Trump”.

Survivors include her step children, Maurice (Tim) Liedtke of Raymond, NE, and Doug (Chris) Meyer of North Platte; six grandchildren, Ted (Alyssa) Saunders of Lincoln, Kortnee (Orrin) Seidel of North Platte, Zach (Jordan) Saunders of Lincoln, Kayla (fiancé Troy Lusk) Meyer of Kearney, Jeremy Orr of North Platte, and Josie (Josh) Freiberger of Alliance; great grandchildren, Camden and Easton Saunders, Parker and Mollee Seidel, Isaac Saunders, Cadence, Logan, Rachel, and Jack Freiberger; siblings, Doris Chehey of Kearney, Kay (Mike) Vineyard of Wichita, KS, Virgil  (Vivian) Arent of North Platte, Glenn (Carolyn) Hathaway of Topeka, KS, Richard (Linda) Hathaway, Wichita, KS ;  and Loren (Ann) Hathaway of Wichita, KS, best friend, Bette Tatman of North Platte; and God daughters, Renee Tatman and Amy Beyer; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends; and her beloved dog Angel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Bob and Larry; step father Lowell “Hutch” Hathaway; siblings, Myrna (Gail) Williams; nephew Randy Williams; Dewayne Hathaway, Rosamond Stoops; son-in-law, Dave Joyce; parents-in-law, Cliff and Fern Meyer; sister and brother-in- law, Joyce (Delbert) Sommer; nephew, Dwight Sommer; and best friend, Gary Tatman.

Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, or to the FUR Animal Rescue.  Online condolences and the live stream of the service will be at www.adamsswanson.com.  

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday September 15, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Michael Evans officiating.  Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.  Visitation will be Thursday from 12-7 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home, which is entrusted with the arrangements.
