Donald E. Stauffer, formerly of Cozad, passed away Friday, January 12, 2024 at his home in Bertrand, Nebraska at the age of 81. He was born November 2, 1942 at Cozad, Nebraska to Willard and Marjorie (Ogg) Stauffer. After graduating from Cozad High School in 1961, he embarked on his journey as a farmhand before venturing into the field of construction. His passion for building led him to become the co-owner of Quality Building Lumber in Elwood, Nebraska.
In the 1980s, Don transitioned to project management and embarked on a remarkable chapter of his career. He took charge of building care homes and retirement facilities in Wyoming and New Mexico, ultimately concluding his tenure in Palm Springs, California to construct the final one. His dedication and expertise were evident in every structure he created.
Following his time in California, Don settled in LaQuinta, California where he continued to contribute to the construction industry through remodeling projects. Upon retiring, Don made the decision to return to his roots in Nebraska. He married Karen Gruber on December 18, 2008.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; step daughter, Pam Dreher and grandson, Ryan Stauffer. He is survived by his wife, Karen Stauffer of Bertrand; his children: Michael (Sandy) Stauffer of Riverside, CA, Kevin (Christin) Stauffer of Aliso Veijo, CA, Dan (Juliette) Stauffer of Omaha, NE; grandchildren; Chelsea (Tim) Dawson, Zach Stauffer, Matthew Stauffer, Brittany Stauffer, Brandon Stauffer, Daniel Stauffer, Alex (Liz) Cordell, Riley (Kasie) Stauffer, Mariah Stauffer, Jaden Stauffer, and Brooklyn Stauffer, Emilyn Stauffer and Treycn Stauffer; step children, Tom Dreher of Franklin, NE and Anne (Ron) Schmidt of Sandpoint, ID; brothers, W. Leon (Mary) Stauffer of Lincoln, NE and Rodney (Lori) Stauffer of Cozad; sisters, Patricia (Garry) Blagg of Anaheim,CA and Shirley Heidebrink of Cozad; Karen’s daughters, Rhonda (Ken) Hammond, Janna (Steve) Shanno, Karma (Donnie) Halbgewachs, Canda and (Mark) Montgomery and families; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 19, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel. Casket will be closed. Burial will follow at Cozad Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Berryman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
