North Platte businesses are stepping up this season for a cause that hits close to home: ensuring children have the clothing they need for school. The annual Giving Games challenge encourages local businesses to donate brand-new clothing or contribute monetary donations for school-age children, from preschool through fifth grade.
Dr. Kira Kautz of Westfield Small Animal Clinic explained the importance of the initiative: “It’s something that goes under the radar. There are too many children who don’t have clothing to wear to school—or the clothing they do have is worn out, the wrong size, or not appropriate for the season.”
The Giving Games not only support children in need, but also foster community spirit. Businesses compete to raise the most in donations, with the winning team enjoying a fun night out at Axes and Aces, complete with food, drinks, and access to axe throwing and golf simulators.
Donations are being accepted until December 20, either at participating businesses or directly at Westfield Small Animal Clinic, 1821 West A Street, North Platte. Monetary donations can be made through Nebraska Land National Bank under the “Giving Games” account. Winners will be announced on December 22.
Dr. Kautz emphasized the real goal of the initiative: “It’s more about the gift of giving and giving back to the community. We can’t be a great community if we aren’t here helping each other through struggles.”
This holiday season, the Giving Games offer a chance for businesses—and individuals—to make a tangible difference in the lives of children across North Platte.
