Mary Lynn (Graf) Marsh passed peacefully in her sleep on June 2, 2024, at Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Mary was born August 31, 1946 in Loop City, Nebraska to George and Jannetta (Jensen) Graf.
Her parents made their home in Brush, Colorado where Mary, along with her four siblings, attended the local school and helped on the family farm. When Mary was a sophomore, her parents moved the family to Indianola, Nebraska where her mother found work as a schoolteacher and her father worked for the railroad. Shortly after the move, she met the love of her life, Walter “Skip” Marsh. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1964. She then attended Colorado State College of Education at Greeley, Colorado. She Graduated with a degree in teaching in 1967. After graduation, Mary and Skip Marsh were married in the Catholic Church in Brush on June 3, 1967. She and Skip returned to Indianola where Skip farmed and Mary taught kindergarten at Indianola Elementary School. They soon started a family. Mary taught a few years but as her family grew she decided she needed to be at home to raise her children. Mary and Skip raised eight children. They are members of St Catherine's Catholic Church, Mary was an active member of the Altar Society, Mrs. XJC’s and the Red Hat Society. She was a scout leader, 4-H leader, substitute teacher, leader of the CCD program for the children in the church, and kept herself busy with her passions, which were gardening and sewing. In 1995, while her last three children were still at home she and Skip bought the Indianola newspaper and for the next 22 years she was the editor-in-chief of the Indianola News. She loved reading, sewing and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be loved and missed by all who knew her.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, George and Jennetta Graf; son, Joseph; and sister, Linda Muchow.
She is survived by her husband, Walter “Skip” Marsh of Indianola; children: William (Kathy) Marsh of McCook, Nebraska, James (Amanda) Marsh of Pensacola, Florida, Thomas (Monica) Marsh of Odessa, Missouri, Shari (Brian) Smith of Burke, Virginia, Julie (Daniel) Sommer of Omaha, Nebraska, Amy Sweigard of Omaha, Robert (Laura) Marsh of Elmwood, Nebraska and David (Rachna) Marsh of Omaha; 20 grandchildren: Laken and Grant, Kegan and Juliana, Aaron, Jacob, Trinia and Jonny, Kyri, Andrew, Samantha and Nick, Laura, Gheiron and Mya, Jacob, Isabeau, Donny, Bob, Kelly, Brooklyn, Brody, Kourtney, Erik, and Vian; four great-grandchildren: Luna, Mila, Dillon and Cyrus; three brothers: Larry Muchow, Allen (Wen) Graf and Ernest (Ruth) Graf; and one 1 sister, Joan (Ed) Mallon.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Wednesday morning, June 26, 2024 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Indianola with Father Michael Houlihan celebrating. Burial in St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery of Indianola will follow services.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. A rosary will follow the visitation beginning at 7:00 PM.
