McCook woman pleads not guilty in husband's shooting death

McCOOK, Neb. (AP) - A 79-year-old McCook woman who said she suffered abuse from her husband for decades has pleaded not guilty to killing him.

Lavetta C. Langdon is charged with first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon in the Aug. 20 death of her husband, Larry Langdon, at their home in McCook. She entered her pleas Monday in Red Willow County Court.

Investigators said Lavetta Langdon shot her husband while he slept after he hit her twice with a fist while they argued, the McCook Gazette reported.

She told investigators her husband had abused her for 30 years.

The Langdons were married in 1960 in Kansas, divorced in Hitchcock County in 2011 and remarried in 2013.

Langdon's case was bound over to district court, She remains jailed on $5 million bond.
