Hershey, Neb. — The Village of Hershey is recognizing the members of the Hershey Volunteer Fire Department today as part of National Volunteer Firefighters Recognition Day.

The Village Board of Trustees issued a proclamation Tuesday recognizing the dedication and service of Hershey’s volunteer firefighters, who give their time and expertise to protect the lives, property and safety of community members.

The proclamation recognizes that Hershey firefighters respond to calls for assistance at all hours of the day and night, often leaving behind their families, jobs and personal commitments when their neighbors need help.

In addition to responding to emergencies, the department’s volunteers participate in training, equipment maintenance, fire prevention activities, public education and other efforts aimed at keeping the community safe.

The proclamation also recognizes the important role families, employers and loved ones play in supporting volunteer firefighters.

Village Board Chairman Thomas Wolfgang issued the proclamation on behalf of the Board of Trustees and the citizens of Hershey, encouraging residents to join in recognizing and thanking the members of the Hershey Volunteer Fire Department for their courage, dedication, sacrifice and service.

The proclamation was dated August 18, 2026.
