Marilyn Kay Licking 79, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of Lexington, died on March 29, 2024 at the Bickford Estates in Lincoln, Nebraska where she spent the last year of her life.

Marilyn was born on May 31, 1944 in Lincoln, Nebraska to David and Marie (Kaiser) Filbert. Aside from a short period in Columbus, the family spent most of Marilyn’s early years in Lincoln. They were members of Trinity Lutheran Church near the state Capitol building where she was baptized and confirmed.

Marilyn graduated with high academics from University High School in Lincoln. From there she went to study pharmacy at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where she met Charles Licking at a Towne Club sorority gathering. The two fell in love, courted, and married at Trinity Lincoln on April 13, 1968. They lived on the Licking Angus Ranch in the Sandhills until 1981 when they moved to Lexington. Their marriage lasted almost 55 years with Marilyn’s beloved husband Charlie preceding her in death on Easter 2023 shortly before their anniversary.

Two children blessed their union, a daughter Kim (Kimberly) and a son Chris (Christopher). Kim lives and works in Lincoln while Chris and his wife Ami and their daughter Jasmine live and work in Lacey, Washington.

Marilyn worked at several family-owned pharmacies over the years until her retirement. She was heavily involved at her church Trinity Lutheran of Lexington in worship and bible studies, LWML, service guild groups, vocal and handbell choirs, and other committees as the need arose. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her family and friends in a variety of ways.

Preceding Marilyn in death include her husband, Charles; parents, David and Marie Filbert; brother and sister-in-law, David and Alice Filbert; sister, Carol Ann Filbert; parents-in-law, Clyde and Vera Licking; sister-in-law, Virginia French and Virginia’s husband Albert. 

Survivors include daughter, Kimberly; son, Christopher and his wife Ami; granddaughter, Jasmine; brother, Richard Filbert and his wife Raydene; sister-in-law, Charlotte Renner and her husband Terry; and many nieces and nephews with their families.

A Celebration Of Life Service for Marilyn Kay Licking will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Rob Kuefner, officiating.
