Charles “Charlie” B. Schluckebier, 78, passed away on July 21, 2024, in Imperial, NE. He was born on August 15, 1945, in McCook, NE, to Paul D and Rosalie B. (Baxter) Schluckebier. Charlie attended high school in Jackson, MI, graduating with the class of 1964.
On April 27, 1984, Charlie married Evelyn M. Lines in Atwood, KS. They shared 33 happy years together before Evelyn’s passing in 2017. From their union, they were blessed with two children: Dan and Donna. Charlie also had a son, Paul, from a previous marriage.
Charlie enjoyed traveling from Michigan to Nebraska to visit and help on the McClatchy Family Farm. Charlie had a diverse career, as a welder for many years at Miller Manufacturing in Stratton, NE, Shroeder Cattle Company, was as a hired hand for Bob and Alta Keating and later served as a ditch rider for the H&RW Irrigation District until he retired.
Charlie's interests and hobbies reflected his adventurous spirit. He enjoyed catching snakes, shooting prairie dogs, tinkering with old cars, and attending gun shows as an avid gun collector. He was a member of the Palisade Methodist Church, and the Palisade Masonic Lodge. Charlie supported his family's events and was known for helping Evelyn with church activities, such as delivering the church bulletin or food to the housebound. He was always ready to lend a helping hand. One of his favorite pastimes was sitting on the swing outside the ditch house, watching the various wildlife.
Charlie will be remembered by many for his adventurous spirit, warm generosity, and his ability to bring a smile to everyone he met.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn Schluckebier; son, Paul Schluckebier; daughter, Donna Whitney.
Those left to celebrate Charlie’s life include his son, Dan (Desi) Schluckebier of Hays, KS; son-in-law and granddaughter, Shane and Evelyn Whitney of Scottsbluff, NE; brothers, Rich (Sharon) Schluckebier of Palisade, NE, and Ken Schluckebier of Jackson, MI; and numerous friends and extended family.
Due to Charlie’s wishes, there will be no service. His ashes, along with those of Evelyn, will be scattered according to their request. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Charlie’s name can be sent to Pioneer Community Federal Credit Union P.O. Box 117, Palisade, NE 69040, OR can be mailed to Danny Schluckebier family.
