The North Platte City Council will consider the city’s 2026-2027 budget, property tax rate and salary schedule during its regular meeting Tuesday, September 15.
The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.
The council will hold a public hearing on the proposed property tax rate for fiscal year 2026-2027 before considering action on the city’s budget statement and appropriations.
City Administrator Layne Groseth will present the property tax rate resolution and Ordinance No. 4265, which would adopt the budget and appropriate city funds for the upcoming fiscal year.
The council is also scheduled to consider Ordinance No. 4266, adopting the salary schedule for city employees, and a resolution setting user fees for the new fiscal year.
The property tax rate and budget items will be among several financial matters on Tuesday’s agenda.
The council will consider authorizing the mayor to execute an interlocal agreement with the North Platte Airport Authority. Finance Director Dawn Miller will present the agreement.
Two zoning changes are also scheduled for second reading and action.
The first, Ordinance No. 4260, would rezone property at 820 South Walnut Street from an R-3 Dwelling District to a B-1 Neighborhood Commercial District. The application was submitted by Robert and Sally Forbes.
The second, Ordinance No. 4261, would rezone property at 818 and 820 South Bailey Avenue from an R-3 Dwelling District to a B-2 Highway Commercial District. The application was submitted by Randy and Cheryl Boettger.
Both zoning requests will be presented by Development Director Judy Clark.
The council will also take up the third reading of Ordinance No. 4258, which would amend Chapter 75 of the City of North Platte Code regarding bicycles. City Attorney Bill Troshynski will present the ordinance.
Other items on the regular agenda include approval of city claims and a possible closed session to discuss personnel, real estate transactions or potential litigation, if necessary.
During the Board of Equalization portion of the meeting, the council will consider approving the assessment schedule for Paving District No. 843. The project involves Bryan Avenue from the intersection of Francis Street, heading south approximately 267 feet.
The consent agenda includes approval of the September 1 and September 9 council meeting minutes, a special designated liquor license for Cigars Under the Stars at the Prairie Arts Center on September 17, and the mayor’s appointment of Rod Dye to the North Platte Area Ready to Serve Volunteer Program Advisory Council.
The council will also consider accepting the North Platte Volunteer Firefighter’s Service Award Program report and placing $11,000, approved in the 2025-2026 budget, in trust at First National Bank of Omaha.
An interlocal agreement with Lincoln County for network services is also included on the consent agenda.
