OMAHA, Neb.- On August 13, 2021, Creighton University will welcome the class of 2025, the second-largest Freshman class in University history with more than 1,440 students, trailing only the class of 2022.
The high enrollment number follows an untraditional year significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of these students are now looking forward to an in-person college experience starting this fall semester with safety continuing to be top of mind as 95% of students and 99% of staff have been fully vaccinated.
“Last year, our university community worked to keep our campus safe, allowing us to complete the academic year on campus – an opportunity many of our incoming freshmen did not experience in their last year of high school – so we are excited to welcome them to campus for in-person education,” said Mary Chase, Ed.D., vice provost for Enrollment Management. “This is a talented, diverse class that will enrich the academic and spiritual mission of Creighton University for years to come.”
The class of 2025 comes to Creighton with a median GPA of 3.9 and 36% ranked within the top 10 percent of their class in high school. Geographically, the class comes to Omaha from more than 40 states. Nebraska hails the most students with nearly 260. Other strongly represented areas include Denver, Kansas City and Minneapolis. Over 200 students are traveling from more than 1,000 miles away.
This year’s class also will enroll 100 students in the inaugural Creighton Pre-Professional Scholars Program (CPPSP). CPPSP is a comprehensive pre-professional advising program that guides students to their goals in Dentistry, Law, Medicine, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy and Physical Therapy. The group will also receive EDGE advising – which offers support and additional services to students during their journey to a professional program – and the chance for a guaranteed interview with select professional programs.
“We’re excited to enroll so many students in Creighton’s Pre-Professional Scholars Program for an early start toward reaching their goals,” said Sarah Richardson, assistant vice provost for Enrollment Management and director of Admissions and Scholarships. “Many of our students come to Creighton with the intention to pursue a professional degree, so we are eager to watch the impact this advising has on participants.”
The class of 2025 also saw significant increases in students enrolled in many of the pre-professional programs available in the health sciences, as well as the College of Arts and Sciences.
“This incoming class will be a part of an exciting time in history that will see Creighton University become the largest Catholic health professions educator in the nation by 2024,” Richardson said.
The University recently broke
ground on the new CL Werner Center for Health Sciences that will
serve as the new home of the School of Medicine and as an
interprofessional hub for all Creighton health sciences schools and
colleges. In addition, Creighton recently opened
its new four-year medical school, a
180,000-square-foot
Creighton Health Sciences-Phoenix Campus.
Freshman Move-In begins on August 13 and Welcome Week events for students and families will follow, starting on August 14.
