William P. “Bill” Dupree, age 69, of North Platte, died January 12, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on July 7, 1954 in Rapid City, SD to William and Lyla (Brosdahl) Dupree.
Bill graduated from Lead High School in 1973. He went to work for the Homestake Mine in Lead, SD, and continued there for 25 years. Bill married Cathy Wittmayer on July 19, 1991 in Deadwood, SD. The couple moved down to North Platte after the mine shut down, and he hired on with the UPRR in train service. He retired from UPRR in August of 2021.
Bill loved to fish and camp, and took much pride in his yardwork and gardening. He liked to tinker and fix things, being the handy-man for several family members.
Survivors include his wife Cathy of North Platte; 4 children, Jason Dupree of Belle Fouche, SD, Joshua Dupree of Louisiana, Nicole (Jason) Sparkman of Orlando, FL, and Shannon Weber of Deadwood; several grandchildren, and other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Richard. A memorial has been established in his name and online condolences can be made at www.adamsswanson.com.
Visitation will be Friday from 12-7, with the family receiving friends from 5-7 at the funeral home. Cremation will follow and burial will be at a later date at St. Paul Cemetery in Hazen, ND. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
