NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — The North Platte City Council will meet Tuesday, October 7, at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall council chambers to take up a full agenda that includes ongoing discussions about economic development, housing, and local infrastructure improvements.
The meeting follows months of momentum surrounding District 177, the city’s major development zone on the east side. Council members have continued working with developers and business partners to attract new tenants and expand utilities in that area. The council has previously approved measures to encourage retail and commercial growth there, with the goal of bringing new jobs and tax revenue to North Platte.
Housing is also expected to remain a focus. In recent meetings, city leaders have voiced support for a range of housing options to address shortages and rising costs, including new subdivisions and manufactured housing developments. As new employers move into the community, the city has emphasized the need for affordable housing that meets the needs of both local families and incoming workers.
Tuesday’s agenda also includes a consent calendar covering routine items such as permits, contracts, and budget amendments. While these are typically procedural, they often include funding adjustments or policy updates that impact city services.
Residents are encouraged to attend or tune in online. A public comment period is scheduled near the beginning of the meeting, allowing community members to speak directly to the council about city operations, roads, zoning, or other local concerns.
The City Council consists of eight members representing four wards, along with Mayor Brandon Kelliher, who presides over meetings. Council meetings are typically held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
The full agenda and supporting materials for Tuesday’s meeting are available on the city’s website at northplattene.gov. The meeting will be livestreamed for residents who cannot attend in person.
