NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-A North Platte man was arrested on theft allegations after he allegedly left his phone at the scene of the crime.

According to police, on Feb. 25, officers responded to the 500 Block of North Jeffers for a theft.

Upon arrival, police said officers spoke with the victim who reported that an unknown person stole several tools from the back of their work truck.

Police said officers observed tire tracks from the suspect vehicle that backed up to the victim's vehicle. Officers also located a cell phone at the scene.

Officers were able to view footage from a local business that showed the suspect pulling up to the truck and taking the tools.

Police said the cell phone located at the scene was later determined to be owned by John Moyer, 54.

During the investigation, police said officers spoke with a witness who stated Moyer took the tools to another location. Officers responded to where the tools were reported to be and located the stolen tools. Officers learned that Moyer had dropped the tools off earlier in the day.

Police said probable cause was established and Officers located Moyer where he was taken into custody.

Moyer was incarcerated at the Lincoln County Detention Center on suspicion of theft by unlawful taking, $500-$1,500.
