NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – North Platte Stockyards recorded one of the most historic sales in U.S. cattle market history on Tuesday, April 15, with a standout performance in its feeder calf offering, including the third-highest 5-weight sale ever recorded nationally.
A powerful run of 145 head averaging 524 pounds brought in $439.50 per hundredweight, marking the highest 5-weight price in the country for the day. The sale came within 50 cents of the national all-time record and stands as the highest 5-weight price ever recorded in Nebraska. It also marked the top national price ever for a lot of 100 head or more.
“This was a truly historic day for our barn and for the cattle market,” North Platte Stockyards said in a statement. “We’re proud to be setting the pace nationally.”
Other notable sales included 24 head at 432 pounds selling for $441.00 per hundredweight—the highest 4-weight sale in North Platte history—and 26 head at 802 pounds fetching $280.00, the fourth-highest 8-weight price ever at the barn.
North Platte Stockyards will host its next feeder calf special on May 6. Consignments are currently being accepted through the office or local representatives.
