Pauline Rose Thornburg, 94, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Gothenburg Health in Gothenburg, Nebraska.
She was born to John and Martha Grams on April 15, 1930, in rural Kearney County, Nebraska. She attended Axtell High School and graduated with the class of 1947. On June 7, 1947, Pauline was united in marriage to the love of her life, Sylvan Frank Thornburg in Minden, Nebraska. The couple lived in Colorado and Kansas before making their home in Lexington, Nebraska. Four sons were blessed to this union: Larry, Marvin, Randall, and Steven.
Pauline was known to be quite the poet. She could spend hours writing beautiful poetry and made sure to write something special for all of her grandchildren. Her work was published in the local church bulletins and the Fence Post Magazine.
Pauline was a devoted mother and housewife who always ensured her family was well cared for. Baking was her specialty, and she enjoyed trying new recipes for her family to try. The first home-cooked meal she made for her husband turned out to be an entire chocolate cake, and it was the best he had ever tried. Pauline was also known for her great listening skills. She made sure everyone knew they could come to her when they needed someone to listen. She was a pious woman who cared for her church and carried that love for many years.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Larry Thornburg of Lexington, Marvin (Dana) Thornburg of Lexington, Randall (Cherryl) Thornburg of Lexington, and Steven (Tammey) Thornburg of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Brad (Reece) Thornburg of Elwood, Brian (Brandi) Thornburg of Lexington, Abby (Bill) Brecks of Lexington, Austin Thornburg of Grand Island, Kim (Josh) Curry of Dallas, Texas, Monte (Megan) Thornburg of Dallas, Texas, Melissa Thornburg and Mike Sanchez of Denver, Colorado, and Christopher (Rebecca) Thornburg of Holstein, Nebraska; great-grandchildren, Brittney, Perry, Easton, Hunter, Makayla, Jackson, Annalynn, Jaxon, Hayden, Randalin, Allee, Tyler, Christian, Riley, Kaden, Rieselynn, Hudson, Tessa, and Bailey; great-great-grandchild, Oakley and one on the way; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvan Frank Thornburg, and siblings, Bill Grams, Harriet Lambrecht, Hulda Smith, Ann Martenson, George Grams, John Grams, and Chris Grams.
