Rodney Dale Weitzel, age 66 of North Platte, NE passed away on June 29, 2023 at Great Plains Health in North Platte. He was born to Harold and Charlotte Gress Weitzel on August 4, 1956 in North Platte, NE

He graduated from Grand Island High School in 1974. He hired on the Union Pacific Railroad starting on the steel gang in Grand Island, NE working his way up to conductor.  He married Debra Smith on August 21, 1976 in Grand Island, NE. The couple moved to North Platte in 1982 when he transferred with UPRR.  He happily retired in 2016.

Rodney was a member of the First Presbyterian Church; he loved lawn and car maintenance and tinkering around and being busy. He spent much time volunteering at the church in his retirement, and he loved to travel, especially to the beach. 

Rodney will be remembered as family centered, and loved to follow his grandchildren’s activities and spent much time with them.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; grandson, Daniel Wiezorek; and granddaughter, Alexis Wiezorek.

Rodney is survived by his wife Debra; children, Nichole (Terry Houchin) Weitzel, and Jennifer (John) Zachry; grandchildren, Kylee Weizorek, Andrew Weitzel, Sam Wiezorek, Dylan (Raelynn Carl) Wiezorek, Austin Zachry all of North Platte, NE; great-granddaughter, Kora Wiezorek; brothers, Hal (Donna) Weitzel of North Platte, his twin Rick Weitzel of Port Charlotte, FL.; sisters-in-law, Patty (Bill) Fairbanks of Cheyenne, WY, Maxine Hooker of Phoenix, AZ, and Darlene Larsen Smith of Golden, CO; brother-in-law, Raymond (Judy) Smith of Phoenix, AZ.

Memorial Service will be at the First Presbyterian Church on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Emily McCreery officiating. A Memorial Book Signing will be on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel from Noon until 7:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 

Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte, NE has been entrusted with arrangements.
