Marilyn Gay Bockus, age 82, of North Platte, NE passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022 at her home. She was born on April 7, 1939 in Sutherland, NE, daughter of Harold Glenn and Gladys Marie (Stackhouse) Bockus.
Marilyn enjoyed in her younger years camping and swimming at Lake Maloney near North Platte. The North Platte Opportunity Center helped her with her special education and care over the years. She participated in the Special Olympics bowling in Omaha. Marilyn loved all kinds of music and dancing and could out dance anyone at her care group home. She could play piano “chop-sticks” and loved wearing jewelry, especially rings, having her hair and nails done, and wearing pretty clothes. Every year she looked forward to vacations with her sisters and having them spoil her with strawberry milkshakes and her favorite, chicken legs.
Left to mourn her passing are her sisters, Carolyn Kay (Edward) Henry of North Platte and Charlene L. Meyen of Omaha; brother, Dennis L. (Connie) Bockus of Gothenburg; along with several loving nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by many loving caregivers and staff at the North Platte Opportunity Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Gladys; sister, Evelyn (Coy) Thomlison; and brother, Dean Bockus.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte, Nebraska with Steve Thomlison officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, North Platte, NE. Visitation will be on March 2, 2022 from 1-7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which is entrusted with the arrangements. Memorials are suggested to be given to the North Platte Opportunity Center. Online condolences and sharing of memories may be expressed to the family at www.carpentermemorial.com.
