NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (Aug. 25, 2025) — A Texas man was arrested Friday in North Platte after police say he attempted to withdraw money from another person’s bank account.
Officers were called to Wells Fargo Bank, 315 N. Dewey St., where they identified the suspect as Jiancheng Chen, 29, of Dallas, according to the North Platte Police Department.

Investigators said Chen had traveled through multiple states, visiting banks and withdrawing funds from victims’ accounts using information obtained through scams. Officers seized about $36,000 in cash believed to be tied to fraudulent activity, along with evidence linking Chen to a larger criminal syndicate operating out of another state.
Chen was booked into the Lincoln County Detention Center on multiple felony charges, including theft by receiving stolen property of $5,000 or more, possession of four or more financial transaction devices, racketeering, criminal impersonation, identity theft and attempted theft by deception.
The case remains under investigation, and North Platte police said they are working with other agencies to determine the scope of Chen’s activities.
