Judy Kay (Herbst) Brown 81, of North Platte passed away January 6, 2023 at the North Platte Care Center.
Judy was born November 25, 1941 in North Platte to Edward Louis and Betty Jo (Weil) Herbst. She grew up and attended North Platte Public Schools graduating from North Platte High School in 1958. Judy went to work for Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator at night while attending college during the day where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught at country schools in Lincoln, Perkins, and Keith counties. In 1973 Judy married Elmer “Brownie” Brown.
Judy was very artistic, teaching many china painting classes in North Platte and McCook. She was also involved with the Platter Painters, Friends of Buffalo Bill, and had much interest in the Lincoln County Museum.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Marsha; and nephew, Josh Herbst.
Survivors include her brothers, Mike (Corniela) Herbst of Fort Collins, CO, and Gary (Jackie) Herbst of North Platte; and nephews, Jeremy (Carrie) Herbst and Justin (Sam) Herbst all of North Platte.

Private graveside services in the North Platte Cemetery will be held at a later date. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
