Story by Jake Hasenauer - NPHS Cross Country

It was a great day for the North Platte Bulldogs!  We were blessed with a beautiful morning and a chance to compete at home.  Our words of the week were "something big" and the kids lived up to that motto.  It had been 324 days since our whole team had competed together and an official meet (GNAC Conference 2019).  The kids were excited and ready to do anything they could for their teammates.

The varsity girls were led by Zarah Blaesi finishing runner-up and leading the lady Bulldogs to a runner-up team finish.  I was very proud of how the girls competed.  We are fortunate to have our whole varsity squad back from a year ago and I could tell they were excited and ready to go!  McCook edged the girls out by two points.

The varsity boys were led by Evan Caudy, helping the team come home with the championship.  I had told the boys to run the first 1,000 meters together, trust each other, and compete the best they could.  They did exactly this, and it was icing on the cake to have our top five boys all finish in the top 6.

It was fun to be able to have the JV races as well.  The JV races give each kid experience and a chance to earn a varsity spot. They were hungry to have a great day today!  The JV girls brought home six medals and the JV boys brought home 11 medals and swept the top 8 spots.

We were truthfully blessed with the opportunity to compete today and the kids were ready to go to battle for each other.  Next Saturday we will head to the Cozad Invitational.
