JoAnne Harms, age 88, of Brule, NE, passed away, Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at The Indian Hills Manor in Ogallalla, NE.
JoAnne was born December 18, 1931 in Brule, NE to Joseph and Lois Anne (Mong) Smolcyzyk. She was baptized at St. Luke's Rectory on December 21, 1931
JoAnne attended elementary school at District #22. She attended St. Patrick's Catholic School in Sidney, NE from the seventh grade through the first semester of ninth grade. JoAnne then attended Ogallala High School for a year and a half before moving to Tucson, AZ. She graduated from High School in Tucson in 1950.
In 1954 she graduated from the University of Nebraska Colllege of Nursing in Omaha with a Registered Nurse Certificate. JoAnne was employed at the Ogallala Medical Clinic and at Perkins County Hospital.
On August 1, 1956 JoAnne was united in marriage to Milan L. Harms. The couple resided in Brule and in 1961 moved to the family farm north and west of Brule. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on December 31, 1968 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Brule by the Rev. E.L. Feyerherm and was a member there ever since.
The Harms moved into Brule in 1982 and then returned to the farm in 1995. Milan Passed away in April 1997 and she retired from farming in 2000.
JoAnne enjoyed being a homemaker and helping on the farm. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, cooking and traveling. She was active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milan; and her parents; and 1 sister, Mary Nowak.
JoAnne is survived by 1 son; Brad (April) Harms, of Brule; 4 daughters; Patty (Errol) Nordhausen, of Ogallala; Jean (Jerry) Armstrong, of Holyoke, CO; Amy (Kevin) Madden, of Potter, NE; Faye (John) Copeland, of Big Piney, WY; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Richard (Lee Ann) Smolczyk, of Liberty, MO.
Visitation will be held, Monday, June 29, 2020 from 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel in Ogallala.
A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2020 in the Brule Cemetery, Brule, NE with Rev. Jon Dickmander of the St. John's Lutheran Church of Brule officiating.

A memorial has been established to the St. John's Lutheran Church in Brule in her name.
