
Charlotte Mahoney Werts was born May 24, 1928, in Chariton, IA. She
peacefully passed away at the age of 94 while residing at Dunklau
Gardens in Fremont, NE.
Charlotte, the seventh of John and Cora Mahoney's nine children, lived
in Chariton throughout most of her childhood and graduated from Chariton High School.
On November 10, 1946, Charlotte was united in marriage to Roger Werts.
They initially lived in Chariton, later moved to Muscatine, IA, and then
resided in Bettendorf, IA. They moved to North Platte, NE, in 1971 and
later to Post Falls, ID. Their retirement years were spent in Mesa, AZ,
until returning to North Platte to be closer to family.
Charlotte was a homemaker for her five children. She served as room
mother, den mother and assistant Brownie leader, and was active at
Asbury Methodist Church in Bettendorf. Charlotte enjoyed baking,
cooking, crocheting, cake decorating and singing. In retirement, she
sang with the Leisure Time Belles. Charlotte loved people and could
easily strike up a conversation with anyone.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, and son Cary and his wife, Susan Werts; her parents; sisters, Mildred, Ilene, Viola and Jacqueline; brothers, Vincent, Bernard, Edmond and Leo; and great-grandson, Peyton.
Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Peggy (Dana) Mackey of Fremont;
sons, Gary (Diana) Werts of Bettendorf, IA, Tary (Diana) Werts of
Cheyenne, WY, and Bary Werts of North Platte; sisters-in-law, Delores
Werts of Russell, IA, and Karen Mahoney of Chandler, AZ; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family.
Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 26, in the
Dunklau Gardens Chapel in Fremont, NE. Graveside service will be held at a later date in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, NE.
