Harlan G. Garringer (1942-2020)

Harlan G. Garringer, age 77, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at his home in Lexington.

He was born on September 25, 1942 in Oconto, Nebraska to Walter and Effie (Elston) Garringer.  He graduated from Plattsmouth High School with the Class of 1961.  He was united in marriage to Sandra K. Childres on June 28, 1963 in Cedar Creek, Nebraska, where they made their home.  To this union, two sons were born:  James and William.

While living in Louisville, Nebraska, Harlan worked construction with this brother-in-law, Don Sturgeon, until moving to the Elm Creek-Lexington, Nebraska area where he worked for the Kearney Packing Plant and Cornland Dressed Beef.

Harlan dearly loved camping, hunting, and fishing with his family and friends.  Johnson Lake Inlet was his second home where he spent many hours fishing.  He was an avid Nebraska Husker fan and loved to tailgate and attend the home games in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Harlan is survived by two sons: James and wife Sheli of Lexington, Nebraska and William and wife Kristy of Elm Creek, Nebraska; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers: Jerry of Holdrege, Nebraska and Keith of Kearney, Nebraska; two sisters: Thelma Sturgeion and Mary Garringer both of Omaha, Nebraska; brothers-in-law Dale Hild of Lexington, Nebraska, Mike Crow of Omaha, Nebraska, and Jamie Trampe of Elm Creek, Nebraska.  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Harlan is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Fay Crow, Rhonda Tramep, and Rachel Hild; a sister-in-law, Connie Garringer; and a brother-in-law, Don Sturgeon.

There will be no visitation, as the family is honoring Harlan's wish for cremation.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 25, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery east of Lexington, Nebraska with the Pastor Rex Adams officiating.

A memorial has been established in Harlan's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for a later designation.
