KEARNEY, Neb.-As the pressure mounts for Governor Ricketts to issue a statewide mask mandate, Kearney has taken it upon themselves to implement an indoor mask policy.
The Kearney City Council met Tuesday and by a unanimous vote approved an indoor mask ordinance.
Within the city of Kearney, masks will be mandatory in indoor public spaces for anyone over the age of five.
Failure to comply with the ordinance could result in a fine of $25.
The council did make several exceptions:
-While at a bar or restaurant, masks will not be required while someone is eating and drinking.
-Masks are not required inside homes.
-Masks aren't required when someone words alone in their office, vehicle, etc...
-People at desks or workstations where other safety measures are in place, like plexiglass, will not be required to wear a mask.
The ordinance goes into effect on November 23 and will be in place until February 23, 2021.
