On December 15, 2023, Kay Tinajera passed away at Great Plains Health in North Platte at the age of 87.
Kay, the daughter of Ramon and Juana Alvarez, was born March 21, 1936, at Abilene, TX, where she grew up and attended school. She married Gilbert Tinajera and they lived in Abilene until moving to North Platte.
Kay worked various jobs over the years but her favorite thing was being Mom and Grandma.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Kay loved gardening, planting flowers, listening to her music, quilting and crocheting. She was also generous and donated to lots of charities. Most importantly, Kay was devoted to her family and she loved spending time with them.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Pete and Angel Alvarez; and sister-in-law, Lily.
Kay leaves behind her loving husband, Gilbert; children, Patsy Tinajera of North Platte, Jobi (Tom) Arens of Peoria, AZ, Daniel Tinajera and Melinda (Shannon) Streeter of North Platte, Rhonda (Jacob) Yeagley of Lincoln and Jason Tinajera of Tempe, AZ; grandchildren, Crystal (Eric), Antwein (fiancée, Rachell), Zachariah, Colby (Sophie) and Chanel; great-grandchildren, Ayana, Zayden, Sophia and Elicia; siblings, Mary (Tony) Hernandez and Joe (Dora) Alvarez of Abilene, TX; and many nieces, nephews and other family.
Private family services and burial were held in North Platte. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the North Platte Senior Center for Meals on Wheels, 901 East 10th Street, 69101.
