Richard "Dean" Amm (1944-2021)

     Richard "Dean" Amm, age 76, of Oconto, Nebraska passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021 at the Callaway Good Life Center in Callaway, Nebraska after a long battle with cancer.
     Dean was born on December 28, 1944 at Callaway, Nebraska to Homer and Lena (Esch) Amm.  Dean attended Sunny Side School through the sixth grade and went on to graduate from Callaway High School in 1963.  After high school, Dean attended Universal Trade School in Omaha, Nebraska for auto body repair. 
     On June 19, 1965, Dean was united in marriage to Gaylene Prescott at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Broken Bow, Nebraska.  They lived in Holdrege and Doniphan in Nebraska before moving to Oconto in 1974 where Dean worked for Farritor's in Broken Bow.  He opened Oconto Body and Repair in 1977 and owned and operated his business until 2002.  Dean will always be remembered for his meticulous auto body work because he never let a job out of the shop that wasn't perfect.
     Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working his pasture at Callaway.  He was a member of the Oconto Fire Department and an EMT for many years.
     Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Gaylene, of Oconto, Nebraska; his son Stacey Amm and wife Stephanie of Alliance, Nebraska; his daughter, Brenda Ditmarr and husband Brent of Oconto, Nebraska; foster son, Bill Cook (Marilyn Skeen) of Washington; granddaughters Bridget (Wade) Towey, Mikayla Dittmar, Jamie (Harry) Pickett, Megan (Jacob) Ritter, and Katelyn Cook; grandson, Stetson (Alicia) Dittmar; sister-in-law, Bonnie Chapin; and his nieces and nephews.
     He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Reba; his niece, DeAnn; and brothers-in-law Garry Prescott and Jerry Chapin.
     Funeral services will be on Friday, February 19, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Broken Bow, Nebraska with Father Jim Hunt officiating.  Burial will follow in the Oconto Cemetery in Oconto, Nebraska.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, NE.  Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.  An online guest book may be signed for words of encouragement or remembrance at www.govierbrothers.com.
